Buy Your Audi Car Finance Online After Getting Several Quotes}

Submitted by: Louis Rix

When looking for Audi car finance it is worthwhile going online and getting several quotes with the help of a specialist website. A specialist car finance website will have access to those lenders who specialise in financing Audi cars and so are more likely to get the cheapest rates of interest and best deal on your behalf.

A traditional loan or hire purchase as it is also called can be used for finance for your new or used Audi, this is the simplest of all finance methods and requires you to put down a deposit against the car and then pay monthly repayments over the period of time stated. Once you have made the repayments then the car is yours, hire purchase is also called a secured loan and the car is the security for the money you are borrowing, if you should default on the repayments then the car can be repossessed. An alternative method is to take out a personal loan, however this option would perhaps only be to your advantage if you are buying a second hand car and do not need to borrow a large amount.

If buying a new car or have a very bad credit rating then you could take out a secured loan, however the majority of secured loans will require that you put your home up as security if you are borrowing a large amount and wish to repay it over a longer term. It is essential that you make sure you can afford to repay a loan which is secured on your home as falling behind on the repayments means the roof over your head is at risk.

Another option when it comes to Audi car finance is to go for personal contract purchase. This option asks that you pay a lump sum on the car and then spread the monthly low repayments over a period of time. Once the agreement comes to an end you then have to pay the balance left outstanding on the car. You do have other options, you can choose to trade the car in or give it back and you will owe nothing. A very similar option is credit purchase, however with this option you have no choice but to find the money to pay what is left on the outstanding balance.

An Audi car finance specialist will offer the cheapest rates for all types of loans and a specialist website will be able to gather quotes together so that all you have to do is compare them. However when it comes to comparing for the best deals you have to make sure that you have first read the small print and know about any additional hidden costs which might come with the loan. Along with hidden costs the key facts will highlight the rate of interest, how much interest you will pay and how much in total the loan will cost, in the case of personal contract purchase it will also show how much will be left outstanding.

Apple swamped by iPhone 4 pre-orders

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Pre-orders of the recently announced iPhone 4 began Tuesday, overwhelming Apple and AT&T.

Many buyers experienced issues connecting to Apple’s website and customer service line. Some had difficulty finishing their orders online, while others endured long waits at Apple’s retail stores due to the online issues. Some customers reported that Apple had set a recording on their phone lines telling people to call back at a later time, and others even tweeted about their experience.

Since the original iPhone was released in 2007, web servers for both Apple and AT&T have experienced issues at every new device launch. Today’s glitches were apparently in the transaction authorization process, the point when Apple transfers information over to AT&T servers. Other retailers, including Best Buy and Radio Shack, did not appear to be having the same problems.

Representatives at several Apple Stores in the United States said that buyers should try again tomorrow. Neither company made any official statement about the technical issues.

The newest iPhone, iPhone 4 was introduced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the company’s 2010 Worldwide Developer’s Conference less than two weeks ago. It is slated for a U.S. release on June 24, starting at US$199. Ben Reitzes, with Barclays Capital, estimated that over eight million iPhones will have been sold by the end of the current financial quarter, which ends on June 26. Shares of Apple Inc. rose US$5.41 yesterday in regular trading, continuing their trend of having risen 23 percent this year.

Canada’s supercomputer goes online

Friday, June 19, 2009

The University of Toronto SciNet Consortium went online yesterday with the IBM System x iDataPlex Supercomputer.

U of T’s IBM System x is now the fastest computer outside of the United States, the largest Intel processor based IBM installation internationally and the twelfth most powerful globally. It will be used for a wide variety of operations, such as analysing climate change models, aerospace, astrophysics, genetics, bioinformatics, chemical physics, medical imaging research and other highly calculation-intensive tasks.

The C$50 million dollar supercomputer can perform 300 trillion calculations per second and uses the equivalent amount of energy which would power 4,000 homes. The supercomputer will be cooled by outdoor winter air assisted by a water based cooling system during warmer summer months.

The computer will provide computations for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) that started preliminary experiments on September 10, 2008 at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. The LHC will produce cataclysmic collisions that will mimic the conditions that existed shortly after the beginning of time. The IBM System x’s 30,240 Intel 5500 series 2.53 GHz processor cores — arranged in 45 file-like stacks — will examine the results of the particle collisions.

How To Get Her Back A Girl’s Honest Perspective}

Submitted by: Anthony Malibu

Winning back an ex girlfriend is entirely possible, but it’s a job made much easier if you look at things from her own perspective. Seeing things through your her eyes – instead of just your own – is essential to getting back together with your ex. The following guide will show you what she’s thinking and feeling just after she breaks up with you.

One of the first mistakes guys make after being dumped by a girlfriend is to look at the situation narrowmindedly. No one does this on purpose, but the thoughts, feelings, and actions you take just after losing your girlfriend are almost purely self-serving. You’re doing what YOU want to do, not what your ex wants. Moreover, you’re thinking that everything you’re about to do will get your ex to come back to you, when it reality it’s only going to push her further away.

Understanding the female psyche right after a break up is crucial to seeing things clearly. The flowers you send, the cards you buy, and the long letters professing love for your ex… these are all unwanted gestures right from the start. Why? Doesn’t any girlfriend desire these things? Yes, but not right now. Right after ending your relationship, your ex will want to avoid you. She’s feeling strange and awkward about everything, and being around you will make it worse. And the more you push? The more awkward it gets. And some guys push until the girl runs screaming in the other direction… and funniest of all, can’t figure out why.

When your girlfriend ends your relationship, it’s not always final. People get back together each day. It could be that she’s frustrated or upset at something you specifically did, or it could be the culmination of a lot of different problems. Most likely, they’ve been around for a while… so you’re not going to fix them overnight. The longer you give your ex to think about them, and the more space you give her in which to consider it, the better off you’ll be in terms of winning her back.

It’s a fact: guys like to fix things. Quickly, if possible. But in your ex-girlfriend’s eyes, your relationship isn’t a quick or easy fix. She wants you to realize what’s wrong before you come back to her (or she comes back to you). Trying to resolve your issues is admirable, but it’s also too little too late. These problems would’ve been better addressed while you were dating, and she’s taken the drastic measure of breaking up with you to get you to realize them. Your ex isn’t looking for you to put a patch over the holes in your relationship, and in some cases she might actually be looking to punish you for a specific time period for what she perceives as wrong.

Obviously you can’t look at things from within your girlfriend’s mind, and she’s not going to tell you everything that she’s feeling. This is where you need to stop and clear your own head by taking some time away. Dropping out of sight after your ex dumps you is one of the biggest steps you can take toward getting her back. If you’re strong enough to shut off your phone and flip off your computer, you’ll immediately earn her respect and curiosity. After she cools off she’ll begin to look around for you. Not seeing or hearing from you will make her wonder where you went. This process is necessary to getting your ex miss you, which is instrumental in your ultimate goal: making her want you back.

Any girl who breaks up with a guy thinks the same thing: did he really love me? Seeing a guy chase after you is a good indication that you’re something to be desired. It’s an ego boost for your ex girlfriend, and it’ll also allow her to extend the break up for as long as she thinks you’re hanging around. So now imagine the opposite scenario: a girl breaking up with a guy who just disappears. Such a girl wouldn’t know whether or not she was missed, because she has no clue what her ex is doing. Instead of knowing she was needed, she wonders if maybe she wasn’t needed at all. In fact, maybe she needed her boyfriend more than he ever needed her. This is what gets a girl to question – and possibly even reverse – her decision break up.

By doing the polar opposite of what she expects, you’re keeping your ex interested in you. By remaining strong instead of weak, independent instead of desperate, you’re giving off positive, confident vibes. These are a hell of a lot more attractive to your girlfriend than anything else you could do that might include begging, pleading, and trying to worm your way back into her heart. If your ex doesn’t respect you, she won’t date you again. You’ll fall into the category of “just a friend” or she’ll detach herself from you completely and start dating someone else.

Getting back together with your ex girlfriend demands that you be proactive with everything you do. The faster you begin on these things, the more you’ll increase the chance for a successful reunion. From there, you’ll be able to rebuild a new relationship on a strong new foundation. And since your ex is the one who wants you back, everything will seem like her own idea. This is huge when it comes to the staying power of your new romance. Anything built together will be stronger than if you built it yourself.

Maryland Judge throws out law banning gay marriages

Saturday, January 21, 2006

Judge M. Brooke Murdock of the Baltimore Circuit Court in Maryland struck down a 1973 law banning same-sex marriage yesterday, ruling the measure violated a state constitutional amendment prohibiting sex discrimination.

The decision will not allow gay couples to be immediately eligible for marriage licenses because Murdock stayed the order pending an appeal. The state’s attorney general’s office filed the appeal right after the ruling was made.

“Although tradition and societal values are important, they cannot be given so much weight that they alone will justify a discriminatory statutory classification,” the judge stated in the ruling. “When tradition is the guise under which prejudice or animosity hides, it is not a legitimate state interest.”

In making the decision, Judge Murdock wrote, “the court is not unaware of the dramatic impact of its ruling.”

Ken Choe, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) Lesbian and Gay Rights Project, said “men and women were indeed treated differently under the law Judge Murdock struck down. A man can marry a woman, but a woman can’t marry a woman. Same-sex couples need the same protections for their families that opposite-sex couples do.”

The ACLU hailed the ruling, calling it “a historical step toward allowing same-sex couples to legally marry in Maryland.” She considered but dismissed all the state’s arguments for the restriction, noting “Prevention of same-sex marriage is not rationally related to the state’s interests in promoting stable families and protecting the best interests of children. … These arguments are illogical and inaccurate.”

Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. released a statement saying that that the state will “begin a vigorous appeals process. I firmly believe the institution of marriage is for one man and one woman only.”

Governor Ehrlich had sent to Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. (D), a letter in response to the ruling advising him to appeal the decision and offered additional resources to support the appeal.

“We have noted an appeal and think it appropriate that the court stayed the operation of its order,” said Kevin J. Enright, a spokesman for Curran, in a statement. “We await having the decision of Maryland’s appellate courts.”

The Maryland House of Delegates scheduled hearings for January 31, 2006 on proposals dealing with same-sex marriages, including a proposed constitutional amendment.

John Lestitian, a plaintiff in the case, said Murdock’s decision was “a step in a very long process. As a 40-year-old man, I should be able to decide who my family is.”

“This is such an exciting moment,” said Lisa Polyak. Her partner of 24 years, Gita Deane, was a plaintiff in the case. “Our participation in this lawsuit has always been about family protections for our children. Tonight, we will rest a little easier knowing that those protections are within reach.”

The equal rights amendment in Maryland’s State Constitution was ratified by voters in 1972. The marriage law which defined marriage as only between one man and one woman was approved the following year.

The lawsuit leading to the decision started when nine gay and/or lesbian couples and one individual sued court clerks in five Maryland counties for denying marriage licenses to them, citing legal, financial, and emotional harm. In July of 2004, the ACLU filed the suit challenging the state ban on same-sex marriage.

Same-sex marriages are only legal in the state of Massachusetts in the United States, with the states of Vermont and Connecticut recognizing other civil unions. Hawaii and New Jersey offer some legal protections to same-sex couples, while 13 states have appoved constitutional amendments rejecting recognition of same-sex marriage. Courts in California, New Jersey, New York and Washington State are facing cases on the issue.

Agency: New York City taxi cab drivers overcharged riders by $8.3 million

Saturday, March 13, 2010

According to the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), the city’s taxi cab drivers overcharged their riders by more than US$8.3 million over the past two years, by setting their meters to illegally high settings.

The agency reported that some taxi drivers set their meters so they would charge at the suburban fare, which is twice as high as the urban fare — within city limits, fare is 40 cents per 1/5 mile, outside city limits, 80 cents. 48,300 licensed cab drivers work in the city; according to data, 35,558 of them charged a rider inappropriately at least once, the city noted. The statistics also say that 3,000 of drivers had doubled the rates 100 times or more.

Riders who overpaid spent about $4.45 more per trip than they were supposed to, the commission said. 0.5% of all 361 million taxi trips taken in the past 26 were affected by inappropriate charging, the TLC reported.

New York’s mayor, Michael Bloomberg, commented about the findings in his radio show, saying: “Some of these people could face serious charges. Now, how we would ever recoup the money and get it back to the individual payers, no, but we can stop the practice and we can make sure there’s penalties.”

The New York Taxi Workers Alliance, a taxi driver advocacy group, however, commented that the overcharging could have been due to technology problems, and not because drivers were intentionally raising fare. Bhairavi Desai, who is with the group, noted that “[t]here should be a thorough investigation before judgment is cast on an entire work force.”

New York court rules in favor of same-sex marriage

Friday, February 4, 2005

New York, New York – Five same-sex couples won a major victory Friday as a New York State court ruled that gay couples must be allowed to marry.

Doris Ling-Cohan, a New York state Supreme Court justice, said New York’s state constitution guarantees lesbian and gay people equal access to marriage rights that are violated when same-sex couples are not allowed to marry.

“This is a historic ruling that delivers the state Constitution’s promise of equality to all New Yorkers,” Susan Sommer, Supervising Attorney at Lambda Legal Defense Fund, said in a statement to reporters.

In the New York State justice system, the Supreme Court is court in which cases originate, and is not the highest court. Decisions from the Supreme Court may, with reason, be appealed to the Appellate Division, and possibly beyond that to the Court of Appeals, the highest court in the New York State justice system.

Justice Ling-Cohan ordered the New York City Clerk’s office to start issuing marriage licences to same-sex couple within 30 days. An appeal is expected.

Transporting food costs the UK billions

Friday, July 15, 2005

A report published today by DEFRA, a UK Government department finds that transporting food to and around the country has significant social and environmental costs. The report, carried out by external consultancy AEA Technology, estimates these costs to have been £9 billion ($16 billion US) in 2002. The Government says it wants to work with the food industry to reduce social and environmental impacts by 20% by 2012.

The report set out to make an assessment of the impact of food miles and to develop a set of indicators that will show when progress has been made to reduce these negative impacts. The distance that food travels between producer and consumer (food miles) has increased over the past ten years.

Increasing food miles has been seen as undesirable in and of itself but the report says that the situation is more complex and that the mode of transport has to be taken in to account. The increase in food miles between 1992 and 2002 was associated with increasing levels of congestion and increasing emissions of greenhouse gases while emmissions of some local pollutants such as SOx and NOx have declined.

The Food and Drink Federation, which speaks for food manufacturers, was concerned about the focus on food miles but welcomed the “acknowledgement that more local sourcing does not automatically reduce the environmental and social costs associated with food miles.” The Federation went on to stress that “on imported ingredients, the usual mode of transport used by food manufacturers is by sea, which does not give rise to any significant impacts. Air transport is generally not used by food manufacturers.”

Another industry group, the British Retail Consortium said that retailers would “welcome the opportunity to introduce further transport efficiencies into their operations – always working from the principle that making existing resources work harder makes both good environmental and commercial sense.”

Environmental campaign group Friends of the Earth is worried that the UK Government will not take the firm action it believes is necessary in the light of the report. A statement from the group said “The Government must get tougher to reduce food miles. Unless it tackles this problem the impacts will become worse and Government targets to reduce carbon dioxide levels will be much harder to achieve.”
